Choice of your plant material : rootstock, variety and selection

Choice of plant

Finding the right fit

THE CHOICE OF PLANT MATERIAL

Selecting the right plant material is key to a successful winemaking project. Not only does the right plant determine the profile of the resulting wines, but it can have a positive effect of the level of maintenance required. To help you achieve your objectives, we provide you with the widest available choice of rootstocks, plant varieties, selections, sanitary ranges and formats. With Mercier, you can be sure to find the ideal combination for your project.

THE WIDEST RANGE OF
AVAILABLE ROOTSTOCKS

After analysing the vineyard’s soil, the choice of rootstocks is a key stage in your project’s success. This affects the behaviour of the scion, and may be a factor in light of climate change. The rootstock needs to be suited to your terroir, to the prevailing climatic conditions and to the profile of the wine that you are seeking. And to obtain the right rootstock, it is essential to have a choice! This is why we offer around fifteen varieties of rootstock each with its own technical characteristics, enabling plants best suited to the prevailing conditions in your terroir. To help you make the right decision, Mercier’s technical specialists are there to assist by contributing their experience to the technical specifications available in the appropriate documents.

THE WIDEST CHOICE OF
VARIETIES AND SELECTIONS

Vine plant requirements may be extremely varied but are always very precise.

  • As for the conventional varieties and selections, we offer almost all items in the ENTAV-INRA® catalogue, whose clones are global references in the worldwide viticulture arena. To set yourself apart, you may choose the rigorous and well-known massal selections such as those by ATVB and SICAVAC® or the very specific UNIK® massal selections. In addition, we can also create a personalised massal selection using your own plants, particularly if you are thinking of perpetuating specific vine types.
  • Vine plant technology is developing very fast and naturally disease-resistant varieties, perfectly suited to today’s environmental challenges, are regularly emerging. Mercier offers the largest choice of such new varieties from the RESDUR (INRA, IFV - France), Freiburg University (Germany) programmes as well as the Nathy® varieties, which produce high-quality, single-variety wines and, at the same time, offer increased resistance.

THE LARGEST CHOICE OF
FORMATS AND RESISTANT RANGES

With various resistant ranges, formats and graft types, we are able to offer the widest choice possible

Our patented CleanPROCESS® procedure reduces the effect of pathogens associated with grapevine trunk diseases and provides healthier vine plants.

To increase resistance to grapevine trunk diseases, we inoculate both scions and rootstocks with the trichoderma atroviride I-1237 strain.

To help your plants’ recovery, particularly in difficult replanting situations, we mycorrhize the plant’s root systems in their pots.

Find all the advantages of these exclusive Mercier biotechnologies in the Altis® sanitary range.

We have developed specific formats to best suit your requirements such as the traditional-length (45 and 58 cm) versions and plants in different-sized pots (7x9, 9x9 and 1L). You also have the option to select the type of graft.
